Makaton Monday ~ Butterfly

Bruiser is very receptive to any visual stimulation. Things that give repetitive motion seem to give him a sensory comfort which he loves. Butterflies come into this category. Last summer he loved been outside watching the birds fly and the butterflies flutter.

After seeing some butterflies on a cartoon recently. He was trying to tell me what they were but couldn’t say it verbally. When I eventually figured out what he was telling me after rewinding the sky box, I went and got my Makaton signs out, hopeful that I would come across the sign, so I could show Bruiser what it was.

It was very funny watching him learn the sign. He was all thumbs bless him and struggled a little trying to get it right before he let me go behind him and lead with his hands a couple of times. He mastered it in the end on his own :).
