Makaton Monday ~ Ice Cream

Its been lovely to see the Sun over this last week. If it wasnt so cold i’d go as far as to say that it was ‘Ice Cream’ weather. It was this time last year!

Bruiser loves Ice Cream. This is one of the signs that he has taught himself and started using without any input from us and he signs it perfectly. Thank you Mr Tumble 🙂

However, it’s not a word he can say very clearly (sounds something like nineen) and more often than not he will sign without attempting the word. Quite often after a meal you can be clearing the plates away, back turned and unbeknown to us, he is sat there signing ‘ice cream’ to tell he wants ice cream for pudding. If we miss this moment we get a full on meltdown where his ability to communicate shuts down and its a game of trial and error on our part to find out what it is that he wanted (it’s not always ice cream that he asks for).

I enjoy hearing your stories of Bruiser, such a character, but in this he has met his match. I LOVE icecream. I eat it in the winter, eat it in the summer, when I’m happy and when I’m sad. I had to go dairy free and managed two whole years. It was hell! But then I became my own ‘mummy’ and rebalanced my diet and now I get to eat it again. Yippee!

The worst was going 2 weeks without wheat, dairy and any form of sugar.. Including fruit and tomatoes.. I would wake up dreaming of cake! I can’t be that strong willed though as I couldn’t do it again… I have tried..well, I did lose a stone! But weight alone is not a big enough incentive and now a day is too long. I have found anyway that being average size is fine really and by making changes to cut out pointless wheat and dairy you don’t really need to give anything up forever. I have wrote about this under ‘A balanced diet? Think again?’. B-)

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I read & respond to them all... eventually.
